Kallesoe Machinery has manufactured various activity apparatus for a city renovation project on the old Carlsberg site in Copenhagen. The project ”Urban life at Carlberg” focuses on creating an area having room for many activities and more life in the space between the existing buildings. All elements have several features without however being too precisely defined. The user must have the possibility to discover, to test and try and to find new alternative use. All items have a strong social element and invite the users to spend some time, to gather and to do physical activities. This way, a wealth of possibilities and combination are presented and create space for the interaction between user groups.
Kallesoe Machinery A/S has manufactured several item and apparatus for the project: Several custom designed grills which conical shape complement the urban design. These grills are to be part of the cityshape and are for the use of all city residents. A basketball stand in an advanced steel design, to be used for street basketball. A greater number of activity apparatus with multiple functions. They can be used for Parkour and Free running, new movements art known from the underground environment in large cities like Paris and London and that focus on the joy of movement.
Streetmovement, that has won the competition to develop the design proposals along with Primus Arkitekterne, gives following reason for choosing Kallesoe Machinery A/S: “We have chosen Kallesoe Machinery A/S because we have learned that this company delivers the highest quality at the best price – and on time! At the same time, they have been willing to experiment though this particular task might have been outside their traditional range,” says Mikkel Rugaard from Streetmovement. Streetmovement has won the competition because they have lots of experience with movement and a good architectural eye for elements that would renew the city life at the Carlsberg site.
The City of Copenhagen, the Danish Foundation for Culture and Sport Facilities, Realdania and the Carlsberg Foundation sponsor the project.
